Step 1. Choose your areas

The City of Fort St. John is in northeastern BC. Fort St. John has a total area of about 22 square kilometres, or 8.5 sq mi with about 19,269 residents according to a recent census.  It is one of the largest cities along the Alaska Highways, at mile marker 47.

Originally established in 1794, as a trading post, Fort St. John is the oldest European-established settlement in present-day British Columbia.  It’s nickname is “The Energetic City.”

Fort St. John is east of the Rocky Mountains and has a climate more similar to the prairies than the BC’s interior west of the mountains.

The city is a retail, service and industrial center with abundant high paying jobs in the oil and gas industry.  Forestry has become more important to the city and a considerable amount of wood is exported to the US.  Agriculture is also a mainstay of the city’s economy as it is a major food supplier for the upland prairies.

If you like the idea of living in a quaint, economically stable, and safe community then Fort St. John just may be perfect place to raise your family.
